Callum Thompson, Managing Director of Business Energy Claims, recently appeared on GB News’ “On the Money” to discuss the government’s energy support package and its impact on UK businesses. He was joined by a panel of industry experts including:
- Angela Knight, former CEO of Energy UK
- Malcolm Grimston, Energy Expert and Senior Research Fellow at Imperial College London
- Vicky Pryce, former Co-Head of the Government Economic Service
Together, they explored the question: Is Rishi Sunak’s energy support package enough to protect businesses from rising energy costs?
Callum Thompson’s Perspective on the Energy Crisis
During the segment, Callum highlighted the severe impact of rising energy prices on UK businesses, many of which are facing unsustainable costs with little to no financial support. Unlike households, businesses are not protected by energy price caps, leaving them vulnerable to market volatility.
Callum stressed the urgent need for greater government intervention, warning that without meaningful support, many businesses could face closure or administration.
The Need for Business-Focused Energy Relief
While the government has introduced measures to help households, Callum and the panel agreed that businesses have largely been overlooked. With energy costs continuing to rise due to global instability and inflation, the current support package may not be enough to safeguard the UK’s commercial sector.
