Following widespread concerns over mis-selling in the non-domestic energy market, the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero concluded a major consultation on the regulation of energy brokers and other third-party intermediaries (TPIs) towards the end of last year.
The consultation revealed some intermediaries have engaged in exploitative practices, particularly during the energy crisis, leaving many businesses vulnerable to unfair deals.
The government has acknowledged these concerns and is now analysing responses with a view to publishing its official findings. The forthcoming report is expected to outline measures to protect businesses from unscrupulous broker practices and enhance consumer protections.
For many businesses, the lack of regulation in this area has led to significant financial losses.
Callum Thompson heads up Business Energy Claims who help businesses establish if they have been the victim of mis-selling and then support in the process of helping to secure money back.
He said: “With mis-selling in the energy market becoming an increasingly pressing issue, businesses will be closely watching for the government’s next steps. The upcoming response could mark a turning point in the push for fairer, more transparent energy contracts.
“If you feel you have been mis-sold it is a simple process to find out and we can support you with that. We want to drive a fairer commercial energy landscape for all businesses.”
